Teacher Assessed Grades - April 2021

Dear Parents and Carers

Following on from our last communication on 21 March we wanted to update you on developments with regards to the Teacher Assessed Grades (TAG) process.

Over the Easter break schools received further guidance from JCQ (Joint Council for Qualifications) as well as the Awarding Organisations (exam boards). The guidance has provided us with more clarity with regards to the TAGs and we have begun to work through the guidance to ensure we work to its expectations. We also continue to teach our courses and assess our students.

JCQ have also provided guidance for students and parents and this is attached to this email. The support materials are also available to the wider public and can be accessed through individual exam board websites.

Subject Leaders are currently reviewing the support materials that have been published to determine which ones we shall use as part of the assessment process.

In order to gain additional evidence of learning, we are currently undertaking further rounds of Practice exams with Year 11. The Sixth form exams will run from Monday 26 April.

Throughout the rest of the course, teachers will also be assessing students through class- based assessments, exam board materials, online platforms (e.g. Century) and homework. It is therefore imperative that students continue to fully engage with their teachers throughout the continuation of their courses. At all times, teachers will share the purpose of the assessments and what evidence it is seeking to obtain.

Key dates:

  • Week beginning 26 April and 3 May – Sixth form Practice exams.
  • From March – June – teachers will continue to teach the course and create assessment opportunities that will contribute to the final Teacher Assessed Grades (TAGs).
  • 18 June - deadline for submitting Teacher Assessed Grades (TAGs) to the Awarding organisations following robust internal moderation.
  • June and July - Awarding organisations will conduct external quality assurance by checking evidence for a sample of schools and subjects and follow up on any concerns.
  • 10 August – Level 3 results day and 12 August – GCSE and level 2 results day.
  • After results are released – appeals opportunity for students if they believe their grade is wrong and can evidence appropriately (the government has not yet confirmed dates for this).

As always, we will keep you up to date with any further developments as they arise. Do not hesitate to contact us if you require further information. We look forward to continuing to work in partnership with all parties and know, as always, we can count on your full support.

Yours sincerely
