Progress 8 success for TDET secondary schools

Pupils and staff at Thomas Deacon Academy and Queen Katharine Academy, part of the Thomas Deacon Education Trust (TDET), are celebrating after the release of the unvalidated Progress 8 league tables.

Progress 8 has improved by a massive 0.6 at Queen Katharine Academy since it joined the Trust in January 2017. The Academy received a progress 8 figure of -0.9 in 2017 and this has now risen to -0.28. This means pupils are achieving over half a grade higher than they were previously.

Thomas Deacon Academy also saw their Progress 8 figure rise this year, from -0.27 to 0.03 – a rise of 0.3. This follows the fantastic news that the academy recently received its second consecutive ‘Good’ Ofsted report. Both schools are in line with the national average.

Chief Executive Officer of TDET, Julie Taylor, said: “On behalf of all colleagues at TDET, I would like to say a huge congratulations to our staff and pupils for achieving such fantastic improvements. These progress figures are a real testament to the hard work, collaboration and sharing of best practice taking place across our schools. It is so rewarding to see the impact this is having on our pupils’ education. I cannot wait to see what our schools achieve as they continue to work together.”

Principal of Queen Katharine Academy, Lynn Mayes, said: “We are absolutely delighted with the release of the unvalidated Progress 8 league tables. This is the first time the academy’s progress has ever been considered Average, demonstrating the vast improvements we have made over the last few years. I am very proud of our colleagues and pupils for their dedication in getting to this point.”

Principal of Thomas Deacon Academy, Rick Carroll, added: “This is the cherry on the top of an amazing year for Thomas Deacon Academy. These results, combined with our recent Ofsted report, demonstrate clearly that we are providing a high-quality education for our pupils. Congratulations to all our staff and pupils.”
